Global Sacramento is excited to announce that it is the latest member of the World Affairs Councils of America, newly established to engage the Greater Sacramento area in international relations, citizen diplomacy, and community building.

“We are excited and honored to be the latest member of the prestigious WAC network and look forward to working with our fellow Councils and the WAC national organization to bring the world to Sacramento, and Sacramento to the world,” said John Shea, president and CEO of Global Sacramento.

As a World Affairs Council, Global Sacramento will bring opportunities for the local community to get involved with global education, international dialogue, and civic engagement, helping them better understand international events and the impact they have on Sacramento.

Matthew Hughes, president and CEO of the World Affairs Councils of America, added, “We are glad to welcome Global Sacramento to the conversation that’s continued since the founding of the first World Affairs Council in 1918 and look forward to their local work and national contributions.”

Global Sacramento was created to house the new World Affairs Council and existing work in citizen diplomacy and international visitor programs, including the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.

“Global Sacramento will not just educate and inform our residents about developments abroad, but will engage them in the richness of our international communities and cultural diversity here in Sacramento,” Shea said.
